Dr Patrick Hughes

Dr Patrick Hughes (B.Sc (Hons Pharmacology) 1999, PhD 2008) has over 15 years post-doctoral experience in immunology and molecular biology research. He joined Agilex Biolabs in 2020 to establish the cell based and molecular services at Agilex, including flow cytometry, PCR, Elispot, and functional cell-based assays from PBMC and whole blood. Patrick is driven by developing and performing assays to the highest standards. He particularly enjoys the collaborative nature of contract research where he aims to provide sponsors with the best solutions for their Immunobiology needs.
Prior to Agilex Patrick was a successful academic; he established and led his own lab that investigated how alterations in the neuro-immune axis contribute to symptoms in gastrointestinal diseases using both preclinical models and clinical collaborations. Outputs from this time include 46 publications (22 as 1st or senior author) including high impact JAMA, peer review for national and international funding bodies and multiple journals including Lancet, and was supported by prestigious fellowships (NHMRC R.D. Wright and Peter Doherty) and project grants from NHMRC, philanthropic sources and industry collaborations.
